TWL Review Red Hot Rock Magazine June 2011

"Väl värt att uppsöka om rakbladet känns slött eller om pillerburken gapar tom." (Red Hot Rock Magazine Juni 2011).
Roughly translated this means:
"If your razor blade feels blunt or if your bottle of pills is gaping empty this is well worth a visit."

Show on Saturday, October 8 at 9:00pm (Gbg, Sweden) w/ No Hawaii and Crucial Sentence

Another show, this time with No Hawaii and Crucial Sentence.
No Hawaii has evolved, becoming a versatile band that brings together every individual member’s various influences, and together they all contribute to the creation of the band’s promising sound. On the band’s debut album “Snake My Charms” one can easily recognize the band’s strong
influences of 70’s progressive rock but also the influences from today’s dark and raw postcore scene. The music of No Hawaii today has been referred to as a mixture of great bands such as Isis, Neurosis, Mastodon, Mike Patton, Tool, Abandon and The Mars Volta.

YOB (USA)

Known as one of the most respected and heaviest bands in doom metal today.

DARK CASTLE (USA)

Florida's sludge two-piece DARK CASTLE first appeared in 2008 with an
elaborately packaged self-released demo (Flight of the Pegasus) that garned
a good deal of favorable attention from the metal press and other bands
(including Relapse Records' Minsk).

KONGH (Växjö)

KONGH are a sludge/doom metal threepiece from Sweden. They were founded by
Tomas Salonen (drums) and David Johansson (guitars/vocals) in 2004, later

The album was well received and got the band out on the road. They appeared
at festivals like Roadburn in Netherlands and Kuma's Doom Fest in Chicago,
and did a lot of shows around Europe, often joined by fellow Swedish
doomsters Ocean Chief or Switchblade. They were also invited to be
supporting act to Neurosis, Cult Of Luna and more. In 2009, the band

"One of the best CDs of recent years" - Polish interview/review

"Many people today believe that sincere and true metal has died a natural death a long time ago, while cd's such as this mock the voice of such opinions."
Without a shadow of doubt I can say that this is one of the best CDs of recent years' sludge!

Metal Revolution Review

Swedish doom metal formation The Deadists released their second 5-tracker EP entitled Time Without Light through Russian-based Slow Burn Records. This EP actually contains 6 tracks, five regular songs and a bonus track. There’s a great deal heaviness on this EP; making it a quite unique effort for this kind of a genre. It has this edgy and aggressive approach, being not as mournful and misanthropic as majority of modern doom acts. Having said that I don’t see The Deadists as pure doom act; as their music contains both elements of sludge, alternative, stoner and even a bit of hardcore.

Esp. the vocals are quite heavy, and when supplemented by some equally heavy and punishing riffs, evil bass lines and hellish drumming, it sounds simply amazing. The best song on the Time Without Light is a third track called “Infinite Self” having this lengthy and aggressive mood; a true and honest doom track if you will.

The Deadists might hail from Gothenburg, but they sure don't sound like the rest of the bands from that region of Sweden. I hope that The Deadists will continue to grow and to further develop their own style, as the potential is there. For fans of Black Sabbath, High On Fire and Entombed.

Italian review in Heavy Impact Webzine 7.5/10

A layman's attempt of translating some quotes into English:
"(...)absolutely exemplary tracks like "Human Stain" (where the reference to the groove is a constant), or "Infinite Self", the track opens with dissonant arpeggios and then begins to grow dark ,going into the same territories as the first Crowbar album."
"Mature and full of a the most terrifying resentment and feeling of unsecurity and uncertainty that furher increases the tension."
The reviewer rates the "Time Without Light" EP 7.5 out of 10.

New interview and review in Lords of Metal

Photobucket
Bassist, Paul, recently took part in an interview with Dutch metal e-zine Lords of Metal. The interview details everything from the background and creative process to the artwork and tour-plans for Time Without Light.
Lords of Metal also reviewed the EP. Follow the links below for the full story.

Menno: After the release of their first, self-titled, EP, the Swedish doom-formation The Deadists has released yet another EP, ‘Time Without Light’. How this new piece compares to their earlier work I cannot analyze. However, what I can analyze is the amount of heaviness portrayed on ‘Time Without Light’. Vocalist Joacim Axelsson sounds like a revitalized Tom G Warrior as his band shits out one heavy riff after another for a mere thirty minutes. The Deadists is not your regular stoner/doom band but has songs and riffs that compel and make the listener feel genuinely evil, the best example of this would be the lengthy and aggressive ‘Infinite Self’. I say bring on a full-length!

Metal Shrine Q&A is up.

Photobucket
Swedish Metal-blog Metal Shrine has done a Q&A with The Deadists. Detailing how the band came to be, how Time Without Light was recorded and much more.

Dutch review of Time Without Light

We're sorry for the poor translation but here are some quotes from the review:
The band picks up immediately with that for which it stands: a good game of stoner / doom that continues to reverberate long time and knows how to captivate.
Stoner doom with real rock 'n roll attitude, that's a perfect description of The Deadists. (...) A relief in the genre and a nice addition to the collection.

Hungarian webzine gives our EP a score of 9.3/10

Our Hungarian is a bit rusty, and the Google translation generated practically just nonsense but here is a link to the actual review.

Earthdog promotion gave our EP 9/10 in their review!

This is without a doubt one of the surprises of the year so far, original, dynamic and extremely raw but with a fair amount of metallic polish, The Deadists should establish themselves as one of the new leading lights in the Swedish stoner doom scene(...)

"Time without light" - Italian review @ Aristocrazia Webzine

Translated from Italian:
The Deadists are a swedish band. It'd be pretty limiting to define them Stoner-metal or stoner-doom, infact their sound is rich and gathers even muddier influences from people like High on Fire and Melvins, but it is characterized also by atmosphere interludes that are pretty far from the genre and leaning towords trip music.
Time without light is their second ep this year and with its almost thirty minutes it's like a shovel well slammed in your face (very good compliment in italian for heavy music)... but it's very well dosed in 5 tracks that diversify the intensity.

Since the opener song, Woven, the singer J. gives it to you straight with his imperial and angry vocality: there is gonna be a lot of headbanging! Peter and Anders' riff work travels thru the hardrock of "human stein" to the atmospheric groove of "infinite self" as if it was the simpliest thing in the world. Reminding of Pantera in some small parts.
The sound softens with Deeper within, still retaining heavyness but less tense and direct, expanding riffs in intensity and lenght, giving chance to markus' drumming to move from the almighty strenght shown in the other tracks to express great dynamics that keep high interest and tension in the track.

Chase the Giving comes to life from a monolithic bass solo by Paul, then sinks into heavy rhytms and at the end of the piece it blows the listener away with a defined tempo change!
The deadists didnt leave anything to chance, using knowledge and support from experts like Sven Jensen for production and Goran F. for mastering.
Eventho the band is very well prepared and studied a lot, infact their songs show a lot of work, they manage to express genuine sensations, which is a very positive thing and makes them a very interesting band to follow carefully in the genre.
Time without light is another important brick for the stoner scene coming from sweden, great music that is worth the money!

"Time without light" EP review @ the Sleeping Shaman Webzine

THIS IS THE SOUND!

Dark maths rule & riffs aplenty. All players become entwined in the mission. These Musicnauts are firing on all cylinders. Flying in their onslaught of your senses. This oozes professionalisim not matched by the majority of major label bands.

Review in Pest Webzine - 8/10

The Deadists come from Sweden and were formed as a band in 2001 but only managed to release 2 EPs until now, and this one I have here is the second. "Time Without Light" is a 5 tracks release totalizing almost 35 minutes of Stoner Doom Metal with strong influences from other music areas like Sludge Metal or Post-Rock. The whole is a very interesting but hard to penetrate slab of groovy music lead by heavy guitar riffs, aggressive vocals, low-tunned bass playing an important role as well and organic, complex drums work. This will fit not only in the Stoner Metal fans collections, others might like it as well.

"Time Without Light" review at Sonic Abuse

Hopefully, by now you will have realised that we rather like the Deadists here at SonicAbuse – certainly this is a record that doom fans, stoner fans and even the more open minded progressive metal fans can get behind and will treasure for months to come.
(...)such a short EP leaves you with only one wish: to hear more. The band’s music is dark, intelligent and filled with plenty of satisfying twists and turns, all of which would suit the long-player format perfectly(...)"
With impressive artwork and such a compelling sound, this is nigh on irresistible – a worthy and exciting purchase for any metal fan then.
Dark, heavy and pulsing with a furious energy the riffs are heavy enough to level mountains while the drums sound like Markus Bolechowski Franklin has been injected with Animal’s DNA to make him perform with maximum vigour.
